보통 VMware 가상머신은 VMware 프로그램 메뉴에서 설정하지만, 그것이 모든 것을 전부 설정해 주지는 않는다. 이를테면 Windows Vista RC1을 처음 설치할 때에 제대로 지원하지 않는 것과 같은 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 아래의 웹사이트에 가면 가상머신 설정파일은 *.vmx 파일을 만들어 볼 수 있다. 이 파일을 참고해서 자신의 가상머신의 세부적인 설정까지 손볼 수 있다. *.vmx 파일은 안전을 위해서 그 가상머신이 실행 중이 아닐 때에 수정하기 바란다. 아래 사이트의 왼쪽의 "Create machine"메뉴의 항목들 중에서 골라서 사용해 보면 된다.
